Project Update - Jan 2010
Jan 10, 2010
The Volunteers and Staff of The YMCA of Greater Halifax /Dartmouth (The YMCA) are committed to preparing a development application that represents the interests of as many community perspectives as is possible. As well, a priority outcome of this project is that it reflects the intentions of HRM by Design and ultimately contributes to Halifax as being a great city to live, learn, work and play.
To this end, throughout 2009, staff and volunteers of The YMCA of Greater Halifax/ Dartmouth have consulted with a variety of stakeholders to best understand the factors that will help ensure that your new YMCA helps meet this vision. Today, there continues to be ongoing and very insightful and productive conversations with many members of our community with respect to the preliminary stages of this project – a new YMCA Centre of Community.
This continuous dialogue has proven very valuable and has helped shape the process and potential outcomes to help us move forward. Most importantly, these conversations have led us to further conversations and additional perspectives to consider. To confirm that your YMCA has been a good neighbour for close to 60 years at this location and we intend to continue to be a good neighbour as part of this Legacy project – for another 60 years.
The YMCA is committed to completing this stage of our community consultation prior to submission and, as a result, this has pushed our deadline for development application submission to early 2010.
We look forward to continuing to dialogue with our neighbours, stakeholders, and city staff, elected officials and community groups over the next few months as we work to collectively realize this gift to the citizens of HRM.
